We could dissect a summer quarterback competition between Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, but let’s be honest. There’s no point.
Instead, take a quick detour and check out our 2018 mock draft, in which the Jets finally solve their longstanding QB issue. That’s where the team appears to be looking, after all.
As for New York’s current QBs, McCown has the best chance to win the starting job for Week 1 due in part to his familiarity with new quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates. In addition, McCown’s experience presumably helps in a new offense predicated on quick passes as part of an effort to cut down on turnovers. The veteran stopgap reportedly has been getting the most first-team reps at OTAs.
Even if McCown begins the season as the No. 1, don’t be surprised if Petty and Hackenberg get some starts later in the year just for the hell of it.
Will Ryan Fitzpatrick be the second-in-command quarterback for the Buccaneers? Not so fast, coach Dirk Koetter said.
“Not necessarily,” Koetter said to reporters on whether Fitzpatrick is guaranteed the backup position. “He’s got the experience factor, that’s for sure, but Ryan Griffin’s had a really good offseason. He’s throwing the ball tremendous.
“We’ll see how it plays out. We love Fitzpatrick’s experience. He’s been here three Wholesale Jerseys Cheap weeks where Griffin’s been here two-and-a-half years. That’s another good battle.”
Fitzpatrick signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Buccaneers last Very Cheap Jerseys month after he was released from the Jets. Considering Fitzpatrick has 12 NFL seasons under his belt, it was assumed he would be behind Jameis Winston on the depth chart.
