Miami running back Mark Walton will undergo season-ending surgery on his injured right ankle, coach Mark Richt announced on Sunday.
Walton injured his right ankle in the fourth quarter against Florida State on Saturday and left the field on a cart. He already was dealing with a sprained left ankle, which he injured against Toledo a few weeks ago.
Richt would not disclose the extent of the right ankle injury, only to say the recovery time would put Walton out for the season.
His loss is a big blow to the Hurricanes’ offense for multiple reasons. Not only is Walton their leading rusher with 428 yards, there is relatively little depth behind him.
A scoreless first period saw the Senators squander four power-play opportunities as they managed just six shots.
The Senators were once again without special teams catalyst and captain Erik Karlsson, who’s still recovering from offseason ankle surgery.
